(AP) Iowa coach Todd Lickliter missed Saturday’s nonconference win against Prairie View A&M because of illness. Lickliter, 54, was hospitalized Saturday and underwent an undisclosed medical procedure at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.

Lickliter reportedly was doing well following his procedure and will be hospitalized for another day or two. Assistant coach Chad Walthall served as the interim head coach Saturday. Lickliter is in his third year as coach of the Hawkeyes and has a 30-41 record. He has a career record of 161-102 in nine years and was named the NABC Coach of the Year in 2007 after leading Butler to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Chad Walthall, one of Iowa’s three assistant coaches, was named interim head coach for Saturday’s game.

Iowa coach Todd Lickliter has been released from an Iowa City hospital after undergoing a procedure to repair a tear in his carotid artery. Lickliter spoke about the operation to stent his carotid artery for the first time on a radio show Tuesday.

Lickliter says he was having headaches when the Hawkeyes were in Kansas City in late November. Doctors discovered the beginning of a tear in his carotid artery and performed the procedure Saturday.
