Has everyone noticed that the pain in Mannings neck, is becoming more of a pain in the ass? Everywhere you look, someone has an update, a rumor, or a “informant” that has leaked something. It all started with a Tweet from 1070 The Fan’s radio host JMV when he tweeted, “Been told by multi sources that QB P Manning needs a 2nd neck procedure. Will remain out indefinitely.Called #Colts and waiting on response.” It was a tweet that JMV took alot of shit for, but after a few days seemed to be right on. This news knocked the State Fair right off the front page and now has put Manning’s mug neck on everything I look at.

The Colts finally came forward today, when GM Bill Polian told ESPN Radio 1050 in New York, not the local stations, that quarterback Peyton Manning will not play Sunday. Manning himself even released a statement.

“To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement. The best part about football is being out there on the field playing with my teammates. It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans. I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back. The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they will miss me.”

Then tonight another added twist, WNDE radio host Jake Query tweeted,

“A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the season. I do believe that the actual diagnosis is still being determined”

“I was also told the 3rd procedure has taken place, either Sun or Monday.”

I’m not sure if the latest tweets was a rating ploy or not but it got people talking and retweeting and even got response from team owner Jim Irsay, “Peyton didn’t have a medical procedure last sunday,we’ll have more info 2 add clarity 2 situation soon.”

The season kickoffs tomorrow and I expect we’ll hear plenty more about Manning’s neck, I’ll even set the over/under at 7 for Thursday game broadcast.

Emmis Communications Press Release

Eddie White Moves to Part-time Role at 1070 The Fan

Eddie White, afternoon host for Indianapolis’ 1070 The Fan, will be moving to a part-time position at the station allowing him to pursue his sports public relations and marketing endeavors in Central Indiana while still maintaining a relationship with Emmis.

“Eddie will be a regular guest on ALL of our stations,” offered Charlie Morgan, VP/Market Manager of Emmis-Indianapolis. “In fact, he’ll be involved in our race day coverage.  I don’t know if I’ve ever met anyone with his contacts, communicative skills and enthusiasm.  He is a natural salesman.”

White, a former Reebok executive, started with Emmis over two years ago along with Indianapolis Star sports columnist Bob Kravitz on the “Kravitz and Eddie Show.” Kravitz left the show several months ago while White continued the show solo.

“I’m not going away,” said White, the former PR director of the Miami Dolphins and Notre Dame.  “I just won’t be there every day. This way I can return to my roots as a sports PR guy while still maintaining a relationship with a company I have the greatest respect for – Emmis. “

Plans for the afternoon show will be announced in the near future.

Dan Dakich

Beginning Monday Emmis will  shuffle it’s on-air personalities in a move the company says will maximize their talents.  The moves will affect Joe Staysniak and Steve Simpson of WIBC-FM 93.1, Ed Wenck of WLHK-FM 97.1 and Dan Dakich of WFNI-AM 1070. Dakich, the former Indiana University basketball star and coach will move into the noon-to-3 p.m. timeslot.

Kravitz & Eddie

But the biggest rumor out of this shuffle maybe the role, JMV plays in it. According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, the 3-to-6 p.m. timeslot currently occupied by Bob Kravitz and Eddie White, could be changing. Kravitz contract  expires on April 7th, and it’s been widely rumored that JMV, the former host of “The Drive with JMV” on WNDE 1260 AM will replace Kravitz, Eddie or both.  For more on the shuffle, and new lineup check out the article at the Indianapolis Business journal.

JMVIt’s been a year and a half since Eddie White and Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz launched their show on WFNI-AM (1070), but John “JMV” Michael of WNDE-AM (1260) still wears the afternoon sports-talk crown. David Lindquist of The INDY Star, checks out the Tale of the Tape.

JMVIs JMV out at the Big 1 – 3? That’s what TFoul is hearing from a source at WTHR, and weekend sports might just be the start of things, as all stations try to downsize and save money. But don’t feel sorry for JMV if it’s true, just check out his pic on the left, he has what I would consider the #1 radio sports show on WNDE 1260 but then again he doesn’t have much competition.

While others are cutting back others are stepping up, just look at what Fox59 has been doing to step up their sports coverage and not to mention the man crush that “The Founder” has on JMV, I would not be surprised to see him showing up more on the Big 5 -niner.
